7  Advising International Students - step by step

Plan to follow up immediately following any online inquiry with these steps:

+ Text or email back to "Hello Sara ... thank you for your inquiry to Living Arts College. I am your adviser who can help guide you in finding your potential for professional level entry into the creative arts. Might I learn more about your hopes and dreams for the future? I have up to date know-how on the digital arts to share." End with an open ended question to build a first text conversation.

+ Along the way you might mention that the College welcomes students that display potential for advancing in the studio arts .. but, you do not offer full tuition scholarships. Understand that many would-be students have no resources. An early check is in order.

+ Your next step is to suggest a live Google Meet or What's App call. this will rapidly alert you to their English skills plus set the stage for next step activity.

Plan to review the summary steps to opposite (left). Understand that many required action step will be detailed to the candidate once you have passed through early dialog. Plan to coordinate document next steps with assigned staff at student services.

+ Set all contact times by referencing New York time.

+ A text is the best first response ... along with a short email noting that you have info to share.

+ Get to a live Q&A session soon, maybe asking for samples to be sent. Build trust during these early times.

+ Suggest later that the International Study menu on our website begins to detail the steps to obtaining a student visa to study here.

Submit = takes payee to Visa card processor .. plus staff is notified of payment

3.1  Instructor Guide to Attendance & Grading Module

Understanding BP for faculty in setting up Tasks that Grade expected outcomes

Review the following to gain general oversight for the grading portion of this module.

+ Any activity within a course that is to be graded is called a: Grade Task

+ Grade Tasks are defined by functional Types such as assignment, project, quiz, exam, etc. Specific call outs are used in the module to track completion and grading of each Grade Task. Clearly defined definitions follow below.

+ Grade Tasks should become the sum total of competencies leading up to a performing a specific role creating a specific media product--film, photograph, kitchen design, sound track, etc.

+ Each course is delivered over 10 weeks as part of our quarter scheduling format. BA programs are completed in 12, ten week quarters. Each week within a course is called a Unit. Unit 1 through Unit 10 define the calendar for each course.

+ Living Arts now conducts competency based programs. As a result, any and every (except general education courses) course contains competency parts as knowledge blocks preparing the graduate as a Creativity Professional.

+ All BA students begin their learning experience with first year core study--10 courses to "Level Up" their foundation knowhow within the studio arts. Level 1 study is completed in four quarters. They confirm or otherwise declare their major beginning their second school year. This then begins Level 2 study.

+ Federal regulations dictate weekly homework. As a result a grade task for homework is set weekly. Homework assignments are based on lecture or presentation content. They are designed to be completed without undue time burden.

Unit requirement for one grade task in addition to homework grade task

When fully executed, the Grade Task page must list a minimum of 8 to 10 grade tasks and 9 to 10 Homework grade tasks. Homework grade tasks ae usually assigned a low weight. The net result is that grades are posted weekly.

3.3  Attendance & Grading Module - Signing in

Setting up the grade task listing
+ Grade tasks are created through a  process combining an Instructional Design and faculty members.
+ Sign in to module menu below varies by staff, but usually begins by practicing and learning using a training module signin at: train.imaginx.net. Those staff and faculty who have assigned Google accounts may then continue using Google credentials.

3.2  Attendance & Grading Module - Grade Tasks

Introducing Best Practices for faculty as they contribute to the delivery and monitoring of worthy educational experiences

The BP series that follows begins to detail the process that supports competency based learning via:
+ Curriculum knowledge blocks, not courses build practical skills.
+ Teaching creative skill building is centered around telling stories.
+ Every student benefits through guided critique of work and process.
+ Each faculty member understands and uses BP set (listed below).

Select Tasks may be multipart and the student may not be authorized to move to next, unless early work in Greenlighted

Post Week - Unit number

Due Week - Unit number , if no date shown in the next column is midnight Sunday

Score - This is usually the number of points attained per GT out of 100 max.

Due Date - Enter if due date is other than midnight Sunday

Weight - This is must total to 100% ... but, weight may be used in a non-weight format. When not weight formated, enter 100 on each line.

3.5 Attendance & Grading Module - Task Types Explained

Task ID - This ID * is auto generated and use within the system. As a user disregard this field.

LMS ID - This field will be auto populated in the futre by Canvas LMS after the course is developed within Canvas.

Task Type - This field allows the user to display the task that is to be described in in the future by Canvas LMS after the course is developed within Canvas.

Task Code - This field allows the user to insert a letter/number assigned from the type listing in this column. Plan to ender the code following this order - the GT type is first assigned a letter prefix. Find the letter prefix in column 3. For example a Knowledge Assignment begins with KA.

In this example, next show the GT code as KA1.1 ... meaning this is a first week (Unit 1) and this the first KA in this Unit (week).

If the GT becomes any of the Project types shown on the GT listing (column 3), then understand that Projects are bigger GT efforts and may involve multiple grading points. An example might be CS/F indicate this is a case solution Foundation project that require two grading points, one completing the first measurable point in the case ... and, a second grade for the resulting solution. The ending grade, therefore, may be worth more points than the first grade.

A multiple grade task might begin with the grade identified as CS/F2.1.1 and the second termed CS/F2.1.2 ... this then is a week 2 project with two grade task points. Understand that if the project is scheduled to be complete week3, the code remains as shown in this example.

DEFINITIONS OF ALL GRADE TASK TYPES IS DISPLAYED IN THE NEXT SECTION.

Description This field allows the user to enter a short tile explain the GT. The must not be vague. It will eventually contribute to the make up the course syllabus.

UNDERSTAND THAT EACH DESCRIBED GT WILL BE DOCUMENTED (DETAILED) IN A GT FILE SET THAT HAS PREPARED WITH CONTRIBUTIONS FROM FACULTY AND THE INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN TEAM. THIS PROCESS IS PRESENT IN A SEPERATE BEST PRACTICE SET.

display the task that is to be described in  in the future by Canvas LMS after the course is developed within Canvas.

GL Reg - This field indicates that this GT requires documented Greenlight critique before the GT is to completed. GREENLIGHT REQUIRED CRITIQUE IS EXPLAINED IN A SEPERATE BP.

Post Week This field displays the week that each GT is to be announced. Under guidance, instructors should plan to announce each GT early in each week as part of the Knowledge Block process. Due date details will be emphaized at that time. Most GT deail will be available in documented form. A BP IS AVAILABLE EXPLAINING THE GT TYPES THAT EXPLAINED AS DIGITAL FILES.

Due Week - This field displays the condition that GT content must be uploaded (or deposited Monday morning) by midnight following  the end of the week number showing.

REQUIRED: INSTRUCTOR FOR THIS COHORT MUST POST GRADES BY END OF DAY TUESDAY. A FORGIVENESS DAY OF WEDNESDAY IS ALLOWED HAVING RECEIVIED AN EXCEPTION FROM THE DOE (DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION.

Due Date - This field allows entering an exact due date that replaces the Sunday, midnight standard.

the user enters the due date that replaces the otherwise standard of midnight Sunday.

REQUIRED: INSTRUCTOR FOR THIS COHORT MUST POST GRADES BY END OF SECOND DAY FOLLOWING THE POSTED DUE DATE. A FORGIVENESS THIRD DAY IS ALLOWED BY PROMPTLY CONTACTING DOE (DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION) OR AS ASSIGNED.

10 Score - Plan to enter the max score for the GT. Remember that each course tops out at an uniform 1,000 points. With 10 units of instruction one might approach each unit (week) with a planned max of 100 points. Homework scoring is usually set at 20 points weekly. Medical Arts programs function on 6 week modules. As a result the 1000 point goal suggests that weekly grading may top out at about 160 points.

11 Weight - This field may be confusing as it will receive special attention one courses are installed into Canvas. For right, simply assign 100 to each field entry. Talk to your DOE if confused. Ask for added detail if you are configuring an operating Canvas course.

12 Extra Credit - This field allows the user to authorize a preapproved plan for extra credit. ASEPERATE BP DISCRIBES THE PROCESS.

Task Type - select ONLY from the definitions below. Use the codes shown in column Task Code.
